Metformin treatment in women with PCOS undergoing IVF does not improve live birth rates

Insulin-sensitising agents, such as metformin, in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who are undergoing ovulation induction or in vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles have been widely prescribed by fertility physicians.
A recent publication found no evidence that metformin taken before or during assisted conception cycles improves live birth rates. On the other hand it appears to be a benefit of metformin on the risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women with PCOS undergoing stimulation for IVF.
